Laptop Requirements
Students are required to have their own laptop and to bring it to class. You will use it in class every day, so choose one that is light enough to carry and powerful enough to last throughout your degree.
There are power outlets in the building, but you are expected to arrive with your laptop charged for lessons.
Recommended Laptop Specifications
Windows laptops
Windows laptops are the standard choice at business schools because the advanced Excel tools and corporate software used in class run on them without any extra setup.
- Processor (CPU): Intel Core Ultra 5 / Ultra 7 (or 13th/14th Gen Intel Core i5/i7), or AMD Ryzen 5 / 7. Models labeled 'AI-enabled' or 'Copilot+' are the newest and give the best battery life
- Memory (RAM): 16 GB minimum. Avoid Windows laptops with only 8 GB; they will feel slow
- Storage (SSD): 512 GB minimum. Choose 1 TB if you can
- Graphics (GPU): The standard built-in graphics (Intel Arc or Iris Xe) are all you need. A gaming graphics card (such as an NVIDIA RTX) adds weight and cost and drains the battery, and business students will not use it. Built-in graphics comfortably handle charts, video, and plugging in an extra screen
- Examples: Lenovo ThinkPad/Yoga series, HP EliteBook/Envy, and Dell XPS/Inspiron lines
Mac (Apple) laptops
MacBooks are popular for their long battery life and build quality. Be aware, though, that a small number of specialist business programs run only on Windows, so Mac users may occasionally need an app such as Parallels that lets a Mac run Windows software.
- Processor (CPU): Apple M3 or M4 chip. The standard chip is more than powerful enough for business applications
- Memory (RAM): 16 GB, which is the standard on current MacBooks
- Storage (SSD): 512 GB minimum. Mac storage cannot be increased later, so avoid the 256 GB model; choose 1 TB if you can
- Graphics (GPU): The built-in graphics on the M3/M4 chip handle university work comfortably; nothing extra is needed
- Examples: MacBook Air (13-inch or 15-inch) with an M3 or M4 chip. The Air is light to carry around campus and the battery lasts a full day of classes
